April 8, 2009
Board Meeting Minutes

Attendants: See attendance roster.

Meeting called to order at 1910 by President Kris Scaffidi.

Announcements:
None.

Minutes:
Motion was made by Rhonda second by Lydia. March minutes were approved.

Treasurer’s report:
There was no treasure report. The bank had not sent the account reconciliation. Lydia will present at May meeting.

Membership:
May is membership month. Sandy presented the flyer. It will be posted on the website and distributed to Board members.

Nominating Committee:
Ballots were mailed out. The Board agreed this committee needs to get solidified and actively recruit nominees for next year.

Ways and Means:
Posters are being distributed to area facilities. More posters can be obtained by contacting a Board member. Joyce presented several examples for napkins. It was agreed that she order 100 white with burgundy lettering and 100 burgundy with white lettering. The extra napkins can be used at our monthly meetings. Letters are being distributed to sales reps and perspective sponsors.

Education:
Workshop registrations are coming in slowly. Board members need to be at Children’s that Saturday by 7 a.m. to help set up. There will be a membership table.

Scholarships:
There are no applicants for the spring scholarship at this time.

Legislative:
1. Lydia will be attending Lobby Days. She had researched travel opportunities but has not received any interest from other RNs.
2. Dawn will attend ORNCC May 2 in Oakland. She is the new Treasurer/Vice Chair for the organization.


Website:
New information continues to be posted. The question of posting pictures was raised. Sandy will contact Carl to see if that is a possibility.

Old Business:
1. Delegates have written their reports from Congress. They will be posted on the website.
2. The Health Conference in Reedley went very well. Kris manned our table. Rhonda and Mary Jane were speakers.


New Business:

February 10, 2009
Board Meeting Minutes

Attendants: See attendance roster.

Meeting called to order at 1908 by President Kris Scaffidi.

Announcements:
National is again announcing the Chapter Challenge for Foundation. In the past, the chapter has donated $1/member. Joyce Halt made a motion to do the same this year. Sandy seconded the motion. Motion passed.

Minutes:
Motion was made by Terri second by Joyce Halt. January minutes were approved.

Treasurer’s report:
Lydia Miller presented the Board with a report. Report is available upon request. If you need reimbursement, write reason for expense, sign it and turn it in to Lydia.

Membership:
Per last AORN count – 180.
The Board agreed to continue the 5:45pm start for the monthly education offerings to encourage networking. Attendees from each area hospital, students and guests will continue to be recognized. The hospital representatives list is still being developed. It was decided that the old list on the website should be deleted.

Nominating Committee:
No prospective candidates at this time. The Committee will continue to search for candidates.

Ways and Means:
The wine tasting suggestions met with the most support. Kris has contacted several wineries including Quady and Birdstone. Dates and costs were discussed. It was agreed that any weekend except April 26 would be ok. Times suggested were from 2-5pm. More information will be brought to the next meeting.

Education:
The March education offering is Dr. Parks speaking on the Golden Hour of Trauma. It wil be held at Community Regional Medical Center. A flyer will be out shortly. The Spring workshop is finished. The brochures are ready for distribution. All the vendor spots have been filled. The speakers are confirmed. Help is needed for setting up and taking down. A sign-up sheet will be available at the next Board meeting.

Scholarships:
There are no applicants for the spring scholarship at this time.

Legislative:
Lydia submitted a report on the ORNCC in Burbank February 7, 2009. Lydia discussed Lobby Day in Sacramento. Discussion followed about investigating costs of getting a bus. More information to be sent out.

Website:
The old hospital representative list and committee chairs list will be deleted. No updates are available currently.

Old Business:
There will be a St. Patrick’s Day parade in Chicago. If anyone is interested, contact Dawn Labiak.
The career day at Reedley College is March 28, 2009 from 9am-4pm. The theme is “Broadening Your Healthcare Horizons.” Anyone interested in helping, contact Kris.

New Business:

Board Meeting Minutes

Meeting called to order at 1905 by President Kris Scaffidi.

Announcements:
No announcements

Minutes:
Motion was made by Rhonda second by Terri. November minutes were approved. There was a short meeting at the December Christmas gathering to discuss the delegate financial support and identifying the delegates. It was voted to give the delegates $5200 to be divided equally. Delegates will inform the chapter at the January meeting if they can attend.

Treasurer’s report:
Lydia Miller presented the Board with a report. Report is available upon request. If you need reimbursement, write reason for expense, sign it and turn it in to Lydia.

Membership:
Per last AORN count – 183.
The task force will get together to discuss ideas for increasing membership. One idea was to start the monthly meeting at 5:45pm to allow for networking and talking with prospective members Sandy will check with National on Ambassador information. She will also check on CNOR members in the chapter.

Nominating Committee:
No prospective candidates at this time. The Committee will continue to search for candidates.

Ways and Means:
The fund raiser idea of a spaghetti dinner was discussed. The concern is interested. Other ideas for a fund raiser were discussed. These included:
1. A dog-a-thon walk/run.
2. A carnival geared to the family.
3. Cobb Ranch has a package for a carnival.
4. Wine tasting.

Several members will investigate the ideas and bring information back to the Board.

Education:
Members are reminded that when hosting the educational offering, they are to provide, up to $50 in refreshments, that the chapter will reimburse. The host will provide the flyer with the information. The Vice President provides the sign-in sheets, CE certificate, etc. the host should contact the Vice President for any other questions.

February’s offering is at Children’s. The education will be on Infection Control. The Board reviewed the draft brochure for the spring workshop. JoAnn H. said she was taking the laser certification course at Congress and volunteered to investigate offering a laser course in Fresno.

Scholarships:
The recipient of the fall scholarship was Sandra Gill, RN, CNOR. Sandra is currently enrolled in a MSN in education. She received $800 and thanked the chapter. She also encouraged anyone continuing their education to check the scholarship application on the chapter website. The process is easy and the chapter has monies to assist in education.

There are no applicants for the spring scholarship at this time.

Legislative:
ORNCC will be held in Burbank February 7, 2009. There are no outstanding legislative bills at this time. Lydia reminded the members of the 2013 Rose Parade where an RN will be the President. The link to the fundraiser for the float will be added to the chapter website.

Old Business:
The “Murder Mystery” dinner won at the fund raiser last year, will be held Saturday, January 17, 2009 at Joyce Lilyquist’s house. Anyone wanting to help or donate items, let Joyce know. The career day at Reedley College is March 28, 2009 from 9am-4pm. The theme is “Broadening Your Healthcare Horizons.”
