President's Message

Dear members,

First of all, I would like to thank you all for being members of a wonderful organization that not only cares about its members, but supporting our community as well. As your President, of AORN Central San Joaquin Valley, it is my duty to inform you that our board members are committed to providing the necessary tools, workshops, and educational events that emphasize the best possible outcome for today’s patients. With the many guest speakers we have selected this year, I believe this will be easily accomplished. I am hopeful that this will be an exciting year with a variety of educational and social networking opportunities.

I am eager to inform you about the upcoming educational events as well as several fun family events that AORN will be arranging this year. Our education segment started out with Dr. Zamora discussing kidney transplantation, .in October this topic was continued on with California Tissue Network discussing the latest news in organ and tissue donation. Nurses week will be celebrated in November, we have partnered with Summit Surgical once again for our annual open house event. This is an exciting time to introduce the different phases of peri-operative nursing care to the community as well as to future nurses. We plan to continue the excitement into the 2015 year with an in depth educational workshop focusing on the liver. Flyers for this event will be sent out soon and early registration is encouraged. We will continue to have our monthly guest speakers with a variety of topics, a family and friend’s fun day at AMF Sierra Bowling, a Christmas social in December, and an Improv Comedy show and dinner in May. Come out and join us, it will be a lot of fun. Remember to check our website and facebook pages for the latest updated information about educational events and social family fun days.

This year a devastating drought has hit our community hard and many families are struggling to provide meals for their loved ones. We felt there is a great need, and have chosen to support the local food bank this year as our community based charity. At each meeting we will raffle off a prize and all proceeds will go to the food bank. No donation is too small, so don’t hesitate to toss your loose change into our donation bucket. We also have a few volunteer opportunities this year for any members that are interested. During the holiday season we help Poverello House Wrap gifts that are donated by Toys for Tots and various donors. Details will be posted on our web page and facebook page. Please check both locations for any upcoming events and volunteer opportunities.

Maya Angelou once said, “They may forget your name but they will never forget how you made them feel”, this quote has always inspired me to remain compassionate and strive for excellence. Once again I’d like to thank you for electing me as your president for the 2014-2015 year. Thank you to our past president Cyndi Ellis for her guidance during my president elect year.
