President's Message

Dear Members,
Welcome back to what I hope will be another exciting year of activities and learning opportunities for you, our members! The Board,
officers and I have already met this summer to plan our education calendar for the year. You will find this document in the September mailing. Children’s Hospital will be hosting the first CE meeting on September 10th at 6 PM. The topic is on Sterilization.
We invite you all to attend and take advantage of receiving a free CE, not to mention some valuable information to enhance your professional practice.
There are several items that I would like to point out to you regarding our local chapter. Did you know ...........
Nearly every month we have a speaker present an educational lecture for at least 1 CE?
We have a fall and spring half a day workshop for 4 CE’s each?
We offer two scholarships (minimum of $500) each year to those individuals entering into the Nursing profession or pursuing a higher education?
We donate to local charities?
We provide career exposure to junior high, high school, and college students through career fairs?
We “open our house” every November in celebration of “PeriOperative Registered Nurse’s Day” to educate the public about safety measures, new procedures, etc?
We send representatives twice a year to the ORNCC (Operating Room Nurse Coalition of California to voice our concerns about current legislation that effect nursing?
We send six delegates to the AORN Congress each year to represent you in making decisions that directly effect your day to day practices? You know all those recommended practices that you hear about, we voted on them to make them happen.
We love to have a good time and have a couple of social events each year, just because……..!
We have an annual fund raising evening affair to raise money for the scholarship and other educational opportunities?
Meeting regularly with peers from around the valley is an excellent way to validate your practice, share best practices, network and develop friendships?
Most importantly, we want you to stop by and visit one month, share your thoughts and concerns and consider becoming involved in this wonderful organization!
I am excited to serve the chapter as President this year. Please do not hesitate to contact myself or any of the Board members if you have questions about upcoming activities, suggestions, or if you would like to serve on any of our committees that relate to the above points. We have a website www.csjvaorn.com that is available to you for Board meeting minutes, scholarship applications, educational calendar, points form and fund raising efforts.
Very importantly, please take a look at the proposed changes to our policies and bylaws. The membership will be voting on these changes at the fall workshop in October.
Again, looking forward to see you sometime this year!
Kris Scaffidi, RN, BSN, CNOR
Chapter President
