President's Message

Dear Members,
Have we got a year planned for you……….! The Board, officers and I met early this month to plan our calendar for the year. We hope
that you will make an effort to attend these wonderful CE opportunities. We will start the year off at St. Agnes with an informative
lecture from the Donor Network on September 9th. Keep a copy of the Education Calendar handy so you can join us each month!
I would like to take this opportunity to tell you some of the amazing things our chapter is involved in throughout the year. Our
chapter is considered to be very active in that we are able to offer our membership and community a variety of benefits. We are able
to offer six monthly CE meetings that are free to members. The topics and hosting facility will vary so that everyone may have an
opportunity to attend.
Last April, we co-hosted the very first AORN / APIC / CCSA conference complete with professional speakers, vendor exhibit, and lunch.
We received nothing but positive comments, so much that we are doing it again! So if you missed out last time, you can catch it this
time around! The conference is scheduled for February 6, 2010, so save the date! It’s going to be “HOT, HOT, HOT”! Yep, you guessed
it; current hot topics will be addressed. We plan to mirror the wonderful collaborative experience that we shared in April. I hope
that you will come and reap some of the benefits from this collaborative experience!
Scholarships……….. People, we have money to give away! If you are a “student” or work with someone who is going back to school, check
out our scholarship! The form and eligibility requirements can be found on our website. This day in age, we could all use a break.
PeriOperative Nurse Week is celebrated in November. This is our chance to show the public what we do and to educate them on safety
measures, new procedures, etc. If you are interested in helping with this fun event, contact a Board member.
The 57th AORN Congress will be held in March in Denver, Colorado, the Head Quarters of our National Organization. It is bound to be a
gala affair, one that you would not want to miss. It is really an experience not to be missed. It is here where decisions are made
that influence your day to day practice. This is a major event that our chapter participates in every year. We are part of the
deciding body and it is very exciting to be a part of the process. Another event that we are involved in on a state level is ORNCC
(Operating Room Nurse Coalition of California). This Organization meets twice a year and they represent us on the state level watching
for legislation that may influence our practice. We rock!
Besides serving the public through career fairs and open houses, this year we will be supporting the Fresno Food Bank. During these
hard economic times, there are many, many families in our own community that need a helping hand. We will have a food drive at every
meeting that will directly benefit the Fresno Food Bank. Please bring a non-perishable food item when you come to the meetings. A
collection will be taken also. As nurses, it is our nature to care and help others and we felt this was something that we could do
to make a difference.
Are you wondering if we ever do anything fun? Well, of course! We are planning a dinner Christmas social and an occasional dinner
Board meeting that is open to you to attend. Our fund raising committee is working on several different ideas to help bring money into
the chapter. Stay tune for more details on that as the event unfolds.
Yes, we are an active chapter, one that you can be proud to be a member of; I know that I am. This is why I am happy to serve as your
President again for the 2009 – 2010 year. Please do not hesitate to contact myself or any Board member with your ideas, concerns, or
questions. Check out our website www.csjvaorn.com for upcoming events. Consider becoming involved. It just takes one time and you’ll
be hooked, wanting to come back for more……….
Looking forward to seeing you sometime this year!
