President's Message

Dear Members,

Welcome to the new 2015-2016 year of AORN! It is my pleasure to once again serve as your Chapter President. I have been involved in our Chapter for most of my career and I am pleased to say that we remain a fully functioning Chapter. We have been able to continue to offer educational presentations on current topics as well as support the community.

This year we started off with a fascinating lecture by Matthew Sciaroni, D.P.M. on growing pains and restless leg syndrome. Following him in October, James Pierce, MD addressed the neonatal congenital conditions of gastroschisis and oomphaloceles. Our annual seminar and vendor faire is scheduled for February 6th. You don’t want to miss this one as we address minimally invasive surgeries. This field of surgery is growing so fast with technological advances that there is always something new to learn. Watch the website for updated flyers for meetings each second Wednesday of the month! Plan to attend; we’d love to see you.

We have several fun events planned for the year as well. Our annual wine tasting event to Paso Robles is in October. We have partnered once again with Summit Surgical to celebrate periOperative Nurse Week on November 14th for our annual open house. This is our time to shine! Let’s show our family, friends, and the public what we do and how we keep them safe. We have invited nursing students to participate in an attempt to “invest in our future”. We are committed to foster interest in perioperative nursing as a career choice. We would love to participate in career fairs as well.

We can’t forget bowling……… bring the family out to bowl on January 23rd for a really fun time. December’s Christmas social is a paint night at DiCicco’s. By the end of the evening, you’ll have one gift checked off the list as you will leave with a completed painting done by yourself.

All in all, our Chapter exists for you. We provide educational opportunities to keep your practice current and to address concerns we all face in today’s healthcare environment. We all want the best outcome for our patients and that starts with commitment; continues with education and ends with investing in our future.

I hope you will join us in our quest this year. We would love to hear from you if you have ideas of suggestions for an educational topic, charity activity or just a question.

Thanks again for this opportunity to serve you!
